Poker Is Gambling
Well not exactly, it depends. The definition of gambling is playing games of chance for money. For example if I play Phil Ivey heads up or in a tough tournament (unless perhaps it's to get better) I'm gambling because I can't win unless I get lucky (it's up to chance). If I’m playing 1k buy-in tournaments with a 10k bankroll even if I’m +EV in them I’m gambling (google bankroll management or kelly criterion to see why). If I am normally a winner in the games but instead of trying my best I give the minimum effort and therefore I’m now -EV, I’m gambling. If you don’t want to gamble play games you have an edge in, are properly rolled for and play with focus. Otherwise you’re just like the guys buying scratch tickets or playing roulette.
